Ghanaian rap heavyweight Sarkodie has revealed that he came dangerously close to cancelling his performance at Afro+ Fest 2026 in Maryland, United States, following frustrations with how the massive festival was organized.
The award-winning rapper made the revelation through his official X account shortly after taking the stage, admitting that the situation became so frustrating that he had to mentally prepare himself before performing.
Sarkodie told followers that he had “almost cancelled” his appearance but ultimately decided to continue because of the fans who had turned up to see him. He described the festival as “extremely disorganized” and urged those responsible to get their operation together.
Despite his dissatisfaction behind the scenes, Sarkodie said he was pleased that supporters were able to enjoy his performance.
The Ghanaian superstar appeared at the festival on Saturday, September 5, during the three-day Afro-Caribbean and hip-hop celebration staged at the Northwest Stadium Complex in Landover, Maryland. The 2026 festival ran from September 4 through September 6.

Afro+ Fest assembled a huge international lineup featuring major names from Afrobeats, dancehall and hip-hop, including Davido, Wizkid, Alkaline, Olamide, Tiwa Savage, Adekunle Gold, Lil Baby, Latto, Chief Keef and Sexyy Red, with Sarkodie representing Ghana among the global performers.
Sarkodie’s comments have since generated discussion among fans, with some praising him for putting his supporters first despite his frustration, while others questioned what may have happened behind the scenes to bring one of Africa’s biggest rappers so close to abandoning his set.
