A family vacation meant to create beautiful memories has ended in unimaginable tragedy after 17-year-old Colombian influencer Sofia Murillo was killed alongside her mother and grandmother in a devastating helicopter crash in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The crash happened on Saturday, August 8, 2026, during a sightseeing flight near the Vista Chinesa area of Rio’s Tijuca National Park. Sofia was traveling aboard the helicopter with her mother, Wendy Manrique, 37, her grandmother, Rocio Cubillos, 59, and pilot Alessandro Rocha. All four people aboard died.

Sofia had built a growing social media following through beauty, makeup, personal-care and lifestyle content. Reports indicate she had attracted more than 200,000 followers across her online platforms before her sudden death.
