Fans of American rapper Lil Durk in Kumasi, Ghana, have taken their excitement to the streets following the Chicago star’s dramatic acquittal in his highly publicized federal murder-for-hire trial.

A video circulating on social media appears to show enthusiastic supporters celebrating the verdict in Kumasi, highlighting just how far Lil Durk’s influence stretches beyond the United States.

The celebrations followed Friday’s courtroom decision in Los Angeles, where a federal jury found Durk Banks, professionally known as Lil Durk, not guilty on all five charges he faced in connection with an alleged 2022 murder-for-hire plot.

Federal prosecutors had accused the Grammy-winning rapper of helping organize a retaliatory attack targeting fellow rapper Quando Rondo. The shooting resulted in the death of Rondo’s cousin, Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson.

Durk consistently denied ordering or financing the attack, and his defense attorneys argued throughout the trial that prosecutors failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he was responsible for the alleged plot.

After three days of deliberations, jurors ultimately rejected the government’s case against the rapper and cleared him of all charges in the trial.

The verdict immediately triggered celebrations among Durk’s supporters in the United States, including fans gathered outside the federal courthouse in Los Angeles.

Now, footage from Kumasi appears to show that the excitement has crossed continents.

Lil Durk has built a massive international following through his emotionally driven street music and hit records, with young hip-hop fans across Ghana regularly embracing American rap culture.

The scenes in Kumasi demonstrate the strong connection some Ghanaian fans have developed with the Chicago rapper and the wider OTF movement.

Despite winning the murder-for-hire case, Durk’s legal troubles are not completely over. He remains in federal custody as he awaits a separate racketeering-related trial scheduled for October.

Still, for his supporters in Kumasi, Friday’s acquittal was enough reason to celebrate.

From Los Angeles to the streets of Kumasi, Lil Durk’s not-guilty verdict has sparked reactions far beyond America.
