Sean “Diddy” Combs has received another change to his projected federal prison release date, bringing the music mogul closer to freedom than previously expected.

According to Federal Bureau of Prisons records cited by multiple outlets on September 29, Combs is now scheduled for release from FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey on January 21, 2028. Earlier this month, his projected release date had been listed as February 5, 2028.

The latest adjustment is another development in a release timeline that has changed several times since Combs began serving his federal sentence. At one stage, records showed an expected release in June 2028 before the date was gradually moved forward.

Combs, 56, was sentenced in October 2025 to 50 months in federal prison after a jury convicted him on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution under the Mann Act. He was acquitted of the more serious racketeering conspiracy and sex-trafficking charges brought against him during his high-profile federal trial.

The Bad Boy Records founder is serving his sentence at the low-security Federal Correctional Institution Fort Dix.

His projected release date has fluctuated repeatedly. In July, records listed January 24, 2028, before the date was later pushed back into February. Earlier in September, it moved to February 5, and the latest update now places his expected release three days earlier than the January date previously reported this summer.

Federal authorities have not publicly provided a specific explanation for the newest change. Projected federal release dates can change because of sentence calculations and other factors administered by the Bureau of Prisons.

Combs has also appealed his conviction and sentence, meaning his legal battle continues while he remains incarcerated.

For now, barring another adjustment, January 21, 2028, is the latest projected date for Diddy’s release from federal custody marking yet another change in one of the most closely watched celebrity prison cases in America.
