The ongoing United States federal case involving Ghanaian social media personality Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has taken another turn after his pre-trial hearing was moved to November 6, 2026, Lifebuzzhq.com has learned.
The development means the closely watched case will remain in the pre-trial stage for several more weeks as prosecutors and the defence continue preparations.
Abu Trica is facing federal charges in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio over an alleged multimillion-dollar romance fraud operation targeting elderly Americans.
U.S. prosecutors accuse Kumi and others of participating in a network that allegedly defrauded more than 80 victims of over $8 million. Authorities claim the operation used online dating platforms, social media and artificial intelligence-powered technology to create false identities and establish relationships with victims.
Kumi has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy, meaning the allegations against him remain unproven unless prosecutors establish guilt beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
The case had initially been heading toward a September jury trial, with a pre-trial conference previously scheduled for August 25. However, the court earlier designated the matter as a complex case after the defence argued that the volume of evidence provided by prosecutors required additional time for proper review and preparation.
That evidence is said to include extensive digital and financial records connected to the alleged scheme.
Abu Trica was arrested in Ghana in December 2025 before being extradited to the United States on July 9, 2026, following months of legal proceedings challenging his extradition.
Prosecutors allege that proceeds from the suspected fraud were used to acquire luxury assets, including expensive vehicles and property. Authorities have emphasized, however, that an indictment represents accusations and is not proof of guilt.
The decision to move the pre-trial proceedings to November 6 is expected to attract significant attention in Ghana, where Abu Trica’s case has generated intense public discussion since his arrest.
All eyes will now be on the U.S. federal court as the case moves toward its next major legal stage.
