Barely settling into his new surroundings, the undefeated Ghanaian featherweight has already hit the gym, sharpening his movement, speed and combinations as he puts the finishing touches on preparations for one of the biggest fights of his professional career.
Laryea will face Argentina’s Adrian Maximiliano Robledo at Casino Buenos Aires on Saturday, August 15, in a crucial WBA featherweight world-title eliminator. Victory could move the Ghanaian significantly closer to a shot at world championship glory.
Footage of Laryea working in the gym in Buenos Aires has added to the growing excitement surrounding the fight. Rather than treating his arrival in Argentina as an opportunity to relax, the hard-hitting boxer appears fully locked in, continuing to perfect the skills and conditioning that have carried him through his undefeated professional career.
The 24-year-old arrives for the contest with a record of 17 wins, no defeats and one draw, with 13 victories coming inside the distance. Robledo, meanwhile, enters with a 13-1 record and the major advantage of fighting in front of his home supporters.
That home advantage makes Laryea’s final preparations even more important.
The Ghanaian travelled to Argentina alongside his longtime trainer Lawrence Carl Lokko, who has been overseeing his preparation and will be tasked with masterminding the strategy needed to silence the Buenos Aires crowd.
Before making the trip, Laryea also received encouragement from Ghanaian boxing legend Azumah Nelson, who urged him to remain disciplined, composed and committed to his game plan when competing away from home.
