Video: Rick Ross Stunned in Court as Judge Tells Rapper “I Have No Idea Who You Are” After Lawyer Cites Celebrity Status

A courtroom video involving hip-hop superstar Rick Ross is drawing widespread attention after a Florida judge delivered an unexpected response when the rapper’s attorney mentioned his celebrity status while seeking an expedited release from custody.

Rick Ross, whose legal name is William Leonard Roberts, appeared remotely before Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Mindy Glazer on Thursday, October 1, following his arrest on battery-related charges.

During the hearing, Ross’ attorney told the court that his client was a celebrity and asked whether his release could be expedited, citing concerns about his safety while being held in jail.

But Judge Glazer made it clear that Ross’ fame would not affect how she handled the case.

Speaking directly to the rapper, the judge said, “I have no idea who you are,” before explaining that, as far as the court was concerned, he was someone who would be treated fairly like everyone else appearing before her. Ross could be seen listening and nodding during the exchange.

The moment quickly attracted attention online, largely because Ross has been one of hip-hop’s most recognizable figures for roughly two decades.

The Miami rapper is facing a felony battery by strangulation charge and a misdemeanor battery charge stemming from an alleged August 28 incident involving a woman. Police allegations described in local reporting accuse Ross of physically assaulting the woman during a dispute.

Ross has pleaded not guilty, and his attorneys have rejected the accusations, maintaining that he is innocent and asking the public not to prejudge the case before the legal process is completed.

The judge also imposed conditions restricting Ross from contacting the alleged victim while the case remains pending. His arraignment is scheduled for October 22.

For many viewers, however, it was the brief courtroom exchange that became the headline moment: one of rap’s biggest names hearing from a judge that, inside her courtroom, celebrity recognition would not determine how he was treated.
